What clients, colleagues and collaborators say about me and my work as a freeranger:
What is Freeranging?
Freeranging is about living and working the good life. The words above are written by others from their experiences working with me over the last 15 years. They are extracted from recommendations on the social network for professionals LinkedIn and processed through Wordle.
I consult and collaborate on business, culture, government and education projects. I operate in a wide network with many clients and partners at the top of their game. Often dealing with difficult and challenging assignments, I inject creativity and inspire people to find pleasure in what they do. I help people work more effectively together and often achieve remarkable outcomes.
Brief biog and journey so far
After graduating in Politics and Government in 1992 I taught English in the little known republic of Moldova. It was coming to terms with independence immediately after the Soviet era. Returning to the UK in 1993, I immersed myself in the internet. Since then I have initiated a stack of projects and enjoyed many adventures with a network of great people. Everything workwise has really been about communication and collaboration.
I’ve launched national newspapers online with the Mirror Group, established AOL UK’s Travel Channel, created online gaming communities for AOL and Channel 4, co-founded and led a highly-respected, maverick creative boutique called Getfrank, helped launch and relaunch national brands in private and public sectors, helped grow various other creative/technology and media businesses, served as a governor of a leading Art and Design institution, launched an open-source trade association, made lots of friends, fallen out with others, become a husband and father, tried to be a good son, learned to play the ukulele, visited Charlotte in North Carolina more than any other city in the world, struck out on my own and am seeking to grow widely and deeply as my interests and adventures unfold.
I’ve been fortunate to work with with many interesting and inspiring individuals in a wide range of organisations including AOL, BAA, Barclays, Bank of America, BBC, The Cabinet Office, Channel 4 Television, UK Department for Culture Media and Sport, EMI Music, FA Premier League, Ofcom, MORETH>N, Museum of London, Sony, various Virgin brands and others that I’m not able to talk about publicly.
I’m currently consulting and collaborating with lots of individuals and organisations that inspire me. Among these are Headshift and Spirit of Creation and I’m evolving a new type of situationist creative practice called boRNWRong with Mr Phil Nutley.
My interests are in design with positive social impacts, open source culture and open innovation, facilitating collaboration and supporting decision-makers through lightness and good-humour in the work-place.
The next stage of the journey is about creating Freerange Networks that bring people together to do great things on an agile, more sustainable and cost-effective basis.
I work in Brighton, London and internationally. I live with my wife and two daughters in Brighton, UK.
Please get in touch if you’ve got something challenging to work out and think that I might be able to help you communicate and collaborate more effectively, or just bring some light in.
